A 12-minute audio recording purportedly from a man identifying himself as Inspector Chen has surfaced online, dramatically reopening questions about the death of Chinese actor Yu Menglong in September 2025. In the emotional late-night call, the speaker claims that key evidence was deliberately destroyed, DNA samples were swapped, and ambulances were dispatched not to provide medical aid but to facilitate a cover-up.

The voice in the recording, which sounds distressed and at times breaks with emotion, alleges that the official ruling of accidental death does not reflect what actually happened on the night Yu Menglong fell from a high-rise building in Beijing. The speaker claims that a watch found at the scene was smashed to destroy potential timing evidence, DNA material was tampered with to support the accident narrative, and emergency vehicles arrived with instructions that prioritized containment over rescue efforts.
Yu Menglong, known for his gentle on-screen persona and loyal fanbase, died at age 37. Beijing police quickly concluded the death was accidental, citing alcohol consumption. His family initially accepted the ruling, and the case was closed without a full public inquest. However, persistent online speculation, fan campaigns under #JusticeForYuMenglong, and allegations of industry pressure have kept the matter alive.
The leaked audio has spread rapidly on international platforms, where it has been viewed millions of times. The speaker, who refers to himself as Inspector Chen, says he “has lost everything” and decided to speak out because he could no longer live with the alleged deception. He mentions a “Dark Current” — an apparent reference to hidden forces within law enforcement or the entertainment industry — that allegedly orchestrated the cover-up.
Chinese authorities have not yet issued an official response to the recording’s authenticity or content. In the past, similar viral audio clips have been dismissed as fabricated or taken out of context, with platforms sometimes removing them under rules against spreading rumors that “disrupt social stability.”
Independent audio analysts who reviewed the clip for international media noted that the voice shows signs of genuine emotional distress, but verification of the speaker’s identity and the claims remains impossible without official forensic examination. No court documents, police reports, or independent witness statements have surfaced to corroborate the specific allegations of destroyed evidence or swapped DNA.
The recording has nevertheless intensified calls from Yu Menglong’s fans for a reopened investigation. Petitions demanding access to original CCTV footage, full autopsy details, and financial records related to the actor’s management contracts have gained new momentum. Some supporters interpret the alleged “Dark Current” as referring to powerful figures in the entertainment industry who may have had motives to silence Yu Menglong.
Legal experts caution that a single audio recording, even if authentic, does not constitute sufficient proof to overturn an official ruling. “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence,” said one Beijing-based criminal lawyer. “Without chain-of-custody documentation or corroborating testimony from other investigators, these allegations risk remaining in the realm of speculation.”
The emergence of the audio has also highlighted ongoing public distrust in how high-profile deaths are handled in China. Several recent cases involving celebrities have fueled broader debates about transparency, mental health pressures in the entertainment industry, and the influence of powerful agencies.
As the 12-minute recording continues to circulate, the central questions remain painful and unresolved: What other deadly secrets does this broken inspector still hold? Who is shaking in fear right now? And how much more explosive evidence — if any — is still hidden?
For Yu Menglong’s millions of fans, the leaked call represents a desperate cry for truth. Whether it leads to a formal re-examination of the case or is ultimately dismissed as unverified testimony may determine if the actor’s death remains a closed chapter or becomes one of Chinese entertainment’s most enduring mysteries.
