Elon Musk’s fingers flew across his phone screen in a furious late-night barrage on X, slamming the latest DOJ Epstein files release as a “distraction” and a smear attempt—his voice crackling with barely contained rage.

The bombshell documents, part of a massive January 2026 dump, include multiple email exchanges between Musk and Jeffrey Epstein from 2012–2013, where the tech billionaire inquired about “what day/night will be the wildest party” on Epstein’s notorious island and discussed holiday plans, helicopter rides, and potential visits with his then-wife. Musk had long insisted he “refused repeated invitations” to the Caribbean compound and barely knew the convicted sex offender, calling him a “creep.”

Yet the cordial correspondence—detailing logistics for a possible trip—has ignited fresh outrage, with critics accusing Musk of downplaying deeper ties. In response, he doubled down: “Very little correspondence… emails could be misinterpreted,” while insisting he never attended any Epstein events and demanding prosecution of actual criminals.

The fiery defense has only fueled speculation: Did Musk ever make that island trip—and what else might surface in the remaining files?

Elon Musk’s fingers flew across his phone screen in a furious late-night barrage on X, slamming the latest DOJ Epstein files release as a “distraction” and a smear attempt—his voice crackling with barely contained rage in a series of rapid-fire posts.

The bombshell documents, part of a massive January 30, 2026, dump by the U.S. Department of Justice exceeding three million pages, include at least 16 email exchanges between Musk and Jeffrey Epstein from 2012 to 2013. In one November 2012 message, Musk asked Epstein: “What day/night will be the wildest party on your island?” Another from December 2012 shows him writing, “I’ve been working to the edge of sanity this year and so, once my kids head home after Christmas, I really want to hit the party scene in St Barts or elsewhere and let loose,” while dismissing a “peaceful island experience” as the opposite of what he sought. Epstein referenced Musk’s then-wife Talulah Riley, noting the island’s “ratio” might make her uncomfortable; Musk replied, “Ratio is not a problem for Talulah.”

Musk had long insisted he “refused repeated invitations” to Epstein’s notorious Caribbean island—Little St. James, now infamous as an alleged site of Epstein’s abuse of women and girls—and claimed he barely knew the convicted sex offender, once calling him a “creep.” He maintained no visits ever occurred and that any interactions were limited and professional.

Yet the cordial correspondence—detailing logistics for potential trips, holiday plans, and helicopter rides—has ignited fresh outrage. Critics accuse Musk of downplaying deeper ties, pointing to the proactive inquiries as evidence of more than casual acquaintance. The emails contradict his earlier narrative of outright refusal, showing Musk expressing interest in visiting at least twice, in late 2012 and 2013.

In response, Musk doubled down on X, writing that he had “very little correspondence with Epstein and declined repeated invitations to go to his island or fly on his ‘Lolita Express,’” while acknowledging that “some email correspondence with him could be misinterpreted and used by detractors to smear my name.” He insisted he never attended any Epstein events and redirected focus, demanding prosecution of “those who committed serious crimes with Epstein.” One post declared: “Nobody has fought harder for full release of the Epstein files and prosecutions of those who abused children more than I have.”

The fiery defense has only fueled speculation. No evidence in the released files confirms Musk ever set foot on the island, but the exchanges raise questions about why discussions continued despite Epstein’s 2008 conviction. Musk’s representatives have not clarified further, and no records show actual travel to Little St. James.

The controversy arrives amid broader fallout from the files, which have already implicated figures like Bill Gates, Prince Andrew, and others in Epstein’s orbit. Victims’ advocates and congressional investigators continue pressing for full transparency, with more documents still under review.

For Musk, the episode is another public relations storm on the platform he owns. His late-night outburst—raw, defensive, and unfiltered—underscores the personal stakes. Whether the remaining files reveal travel records, additional messages, or nothing at all, the question lingers: Did Musk ever make that island trip? As scrutiny intensifies, the tech billionaire’s past entanglement with one of history’s most reviled figures refuses to fade quietly.
