In the remote New Mexico desert, where silence once swallowed victims’ cries, a chilling new wave of unsealed FBI documents has ripped open old wounds—allegations of buried secrets, sex trafficking, and horrors at Jeffrey Epstein’s Zorro Ranch that no one wanted to face.

After years of official closure in 2019, Attorney General Raúl Torrez has dramatically reopened the criminal investigation, driven by explosive revelations in recently released DOJ files. Prosecutors are demanding unredacted evidence, vowing to preserve every scrap of potential proof and teaming up with a fresh bipartisan “Epstein Truth Commission” armed with subpoena power.

Decades of suspected cover-ups are crumbling. The powerful elite who partied there, the names whispered in shadows—justice long denied is finally clawing its way back.

What buried truths will surface next, and whose empires will fall?

After years of official closure in 2019, Attorney General Raúl Torrez has dramatically reopened the criminal investigation, driven by explosive revelations in recently released DOJ files. Prosecutors are demanding unredacted evidence, vowing to preserve every scrap of potential proof and teaming up with a fresh bipartisan “Epstein Truth Commission” armed with subpoena power.

The Zorro Ranch, a sprawling 7,500-acre property near Stanley, south of Santa Fe, was Epstein’s secluded New Mexico outpost from the 1990s until his death in 2019. It featured an airstrip, vast isolation, and allegations that it served as a site for the sexual exploitation and trafficking of underage girls and young women, shielded from scrutiny by its remoteness.

The state’s initial probe, under then-Attorney General Hector Balderas, was shut down in 2019 at the request of federal prosecutors in New York’s Southern District to avoid duplicating ongoing federal efforts. No state charges followed, leaving survivors and advocates frustrated by perceived inaction.

That changed in February 2026. Following the U.S. Department of Justice’s release of previously sealed FBI materials—including flight logs, emails, witness statements, and other documents—New Mexico officials identified details that “warrant further examination.” On February 19, Attorney General Torrez announced the reopening, with his office committing to a “broad and comprehensive” review. Prosecutors plan immediate requests for complete, unredacted federal files and pledge collaboration with federal partners, while prioritizing evidence preservation amid concerns that time and prior inaction may have compromised potential proof.

Adding momentum, the New Mexico Legislature unanimously approved House Resolution 1 in mid-February 2026, establishing a bipartisan “Epstein Truth Commission”—a four-member House subcommittee with subpoena authority. Chaired by Rep. Andrea Romero (D-Santa Fe) and including members from both parties, the panel held its first meeting shortly after formation. It aims to hear survivor testimony, scrutinize local and state law enforcement’s handling of past complaints, probe why Epstein was never required to register as a sex offender in New Mexico after his 2008 plea, and investigate possible corruption or oversight failures. The commission, backed by significant funding, is tasked with producing a public report, with initial findings expected later in the year.

Among the most disturbing claims in the unsealed files are allegations of trafficking networks tied to the ranch, potential evidence tampering, and even unverified reports of bodies buried on or near the property—including claims involving two foreign girls. While such specifics remain under scrutiny and require verification, they have fueled public outrage and calls for accountability.

The ranch itself, sold by Epstein’s estate years ago and now privately owned (with plans reported for redevelopment into a Christian retreat), stands as a stark symbol of unresolved questions in one of history’s most infamous sex-trafficking cases.

Decades of suspected cover-ups are crumbling. The powerful elite who partied there, the names whispered in shadows—justice long denied is finally clawing its way back. As state investigators and the truth commission dig deeper, following facts wherever they lead, the question looms: What buried truths will surface next, and whose empires will fall?
