Prosecutors plan immediate requests for complete, unredacted federal files and pledge collaboration with federal partners, while prioritizing evidence preservation amid concerns that time and prior inaction may have compromised potential proof.
Adding momentum, the New Mexico Legislature unanimously approved House Resolution 1 in mid-February 2026, establishing a bipartisan “Epstein Truth Commission”—a four-member House subcommittee with subpoena authority. Chaired by Rep. Andrea Romero (D-Santa Fe) and including members from both parties, the panel held its first meeting shortly after formation. It aims to hear survivor testimony, scrutinize local and state law enforcement’s handling of past complaints, probe why Epstein was never required to register as a sex offender in New Mexico after his 2008 plea, and investigate possible corruption or oversight failures.
