Fresh forensic analysis has cast new doubt on the long-accepted conclusion that Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in his Manhattan jail cell in August 2019, with an expert pointing to neck injuries and other discrepancies that he says are difficult to reconcile with a simple hanging.
The claims center on the pattern of fractures documented in Epstein’s autopsy — specifically breaks in the hyoid bone and thyroid cartilage — which some pathologists have described as more characteristic of homicidal strangulation than suicidal hanging. The expert’s review also questions aspects of the available camera footage, prison logs, and the circumstances surrounding the discovery of Epstein’s body, suggesting the possibility of a deliberate cover-up at high levels.

The 2023 Department of Justice Inspector General report detailed these lapses in detail, describing them as the result of negligence, understaffing, and disregard for Bureau of Prisons policies rather than intentional conspiracy. It raises uncomfortable questions about whether systemic failures were exploited or whether something more sinister occurred that night.
