A 30-second video that was reportedly hidden and protected with military-grade encryption has emerged, casting fresh doubt on the official account of Chinese actor Yu Menglong’s death and suggesting a possible betrayal on the balcony where he fell.

The footage, said to have been recovered from a secret storage device, shows Yu Menglong on a balcony in clear distress during the moments leading up to his fatal plunge. According to viewers who have analyzed the clip, a man identified as Xin Qi is present, accompanied by an unidentified shadowy figure whose face is obscured. The video has sparked intense speculation that the fall was not accidental but the result of a deliberate act.
Yu Menglong died in September 2025 after falling from a high-rise building in Beijing. Police ruled the death accidental, citing alcohol consumption. The case was closed quickly, and his family appeared to accept the official conclusion at the time. However, dedicated fans have long questioned the ruling, pointing to alleged industry pressures, restrictive contracts, and signs of mental health struggles in the actor’s final months.
The leaked video has spread rapidly across international social media, where it has been viewed and dissected millions of times. Supporters claim it reveals a “cold betrayal” and shows the unidentified figure making movements that could be interpreted as pushing or restraining Yu Menglong. Xin Qi, whose relationship to the actor has been the subject of online rumor, is said to have tried desperately to destroy the footage using advanced encryption methods.
No official verification of the video’s authenticity has been provided by Chinese authorities. Technical analysts note that while the lighting and resolution appear consistent with surveillance or smartphone footage from the period, confirming its origin and whether it has been edited remains difficult without the original source file.
The emergence of the clip has reignited passionate demands from Yu Menglong’s global fanbase for a thorough, independent investigation. Petitions calling for the release of all building CCTV footage, complete medical records, and communication logs have gained new traction. The presence of the mysterious “dark figure” has become a central focus, with netizens attempting to identify the individual through frame-by-frame analysis.
Legal experts urge caution. “A short video fragment, no matter how dramatic, cannot serve as conclusive proof without proper forensic authentication and contextual evidence,” said one criminal law professor in Shanghai. “In high-profile cases, visual materials are often subject to manipulation or misinterpretation.”
The scandal has exposed deeper public frustration with the lack of transparency in how celebrity deaths are sometimes investigated in China. Issues such as mental health support for young stars, the power of management companies, and the speed with which cases are closed have all come under renewed scrutiny.
