Airport Footage Shows Yu Menglong’s Final Companion Wu Yaotao in Panic Before Fleeing China
BEIJING / INTERNATIONAL – 10 March 2026
Newly leaked airport security footage has intensified global scrutiny of the death of Chinese actor Yu Menglong, showing his close associate Wu Yaotao appearing visibly distressed and panicked at an international airport just hours after Yu’s fatal fall on 11 September 2025.

The grainy video, which surfaced on overseas platforms in the past 48 hours, depicts Wu — widely reported as one of the last people to see Yu alive — trembling, repeatedly checking his phone, and looking over his shoulder while moving through security at a major Chinese airport. Witnesses in the background appear to notice his agitation. Shortly afterward, Wu reportedly left the country, with flight records showing his departure to an overseas destination the same day.
Yu Menglong, 37, was found dead after falling from a high-rise apartment in Beijing’s Chaoyang District. Authorities ruled the death accidental, citing alcohol intoxication (blood-alcohol level 0.18%), and closed the case within days. No criminal investigation was opened, and no detailed autopsy was made public. However, earlier leaks — including airport photos showing injuries on Yu’s body and a shaved head, audio fragments of screams, and alleged financial records — have kept the case alive in international media and among overseas Chinese communities.
Wu Yaotao, a businessman with reported ties to the entertainment industry, had been seen with Yu in the days leading up to the incident. Fans and online investigators have pointed to Wu’s rapid departure and apparent panic as suspicious, with many questioning why he left China so quickly if he was merely a witness. Social media platforms outside China have erupted with calls for a worldwide boycott of Wu and any associated businesses, with hashtags #BoycottWuYaotao and #JusticeForYuMengLong trending for days.
The Chinese government has not commented on the footage or Wu’s whereabouts. Domestic platforms have heavily censored discussion of the video, removing posts within minutes. Overseas, the clip has been viewed tens of millions of times, with users sharing slowed-down versions and side-by-side comparisons with earlier photos of Wu and Yu together.
Yu’s family has remained largely silent since the death, reportedly under pressure to accept the official ruling. No statement has been issued regarding Wu Yaotao or the new footage.
Human Rights Watch and several international media watchdogs have urged Chinese authorities to allow an independent review of all evidence, including airport surveillance and communication records. “When key witnesses appear to flee immediately after a high-profile death and visual evidence raises questions, transparency is essential to maintain credibility,” a Human Rights Watch spokesperson said.
The case has become a symbol for many in the Chinese diaspora of alleged elite impunity and information control. The Avaaz petition demanding an independent international forensic investigation has now surpassed 2.4 million signatures, with recent surges directly linked to the Wu Yaotao footage.
Whether Wu Yaotao was simply a frightened witness fleeing potential scrutiny or played a more sinister role remains unproven. What is clear is that the leaked video has transformed a closed domestic case into an international flashpoint, with millions demanding answers that Chinese authorities have so far refused to provide.
