A 30-second video clip that was reportedly encrypted with military-grade technology and deliberately suppressed has surfaced online, dramatically contradicting the official narrative surrounding the death of Chinese actor Yu Menglong in September 2025.

According to the footage, which appears to have been recovered from a hidden storage device described by some as a “secret bunker,” Yu Menglong is seen on a balcony in the moments before his fatal fall. The video shows a man identified in online discussions as Xin Qi standing nearby, along with an unidentified shadowy figure whose face remains obscured. Viewers claim the clip reveals a “chilling betrayal” and suggests the fall may not have been accidental.
Yu Menglong, 37, died after falling from a high-rise building in Beijing. Beijing police ruled the death accidental, citing alcohol consumption, and the case was closed shortly afterward. His family initially accepted the ruling. However, persistent fan campaigns under #JusticeForYuMenglong and allegations of industry pressure, harsh contracts, and possible foul play have kept the matter alive in public discourse.
The newly emerged video has spread rapidly on international platforms, where it has been viewed millions of times. Supporters of a deeper investigation point to what they describe as suspicious body language between Xin Qi and the unidentified figure, as well as Yu Menglong’s apparent distress in the final seconds. Some claim the clip shows the shadowy individual making a movement consistent with pushing or restraining the actor.
Xin Qi, whose exact role in Yu Menglong’s life remains unclear but who has been mentioned in online speculation as a possible associate or manager, reportedly attempted to destroy the footage using advanced encryption. The fact that the video has now surfaced has fueled theories of an internal leak or hacking effort by someone close to the case.
Chinese authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the authenticity of the footage or its implications. In the past, similar viral videos have been dismissed as fabricated, edited, or taken out of context. Technical experts who have examined the publicly available clip note that while the footage appears genuine in terms of lighting and resolution, verifying its chain of custody and exact timestamp is currently impossible without access to the original file.
The emergence of the video has intensified calls for a full re-opening of the investigation. Fans are demanding the release of all original CCTV footage from the building, complete autopsy reports, and detailed communication records between Yu Menglong and those around him in his final days. The presence of an unidentified “dark figure” has become a focal point, with online communities frantically attempting to identify the person.
Legal analysts caution that a single short video, even if authentic, does not automatically overturn an official ruling. “Visual evidence requires context, forensic authentication, and corroboration,” said one Beijing-based criminal lawyer. “Without proper investigation by authorities, these claims risk remaining in the realm of speculation and rumor.”
The case has highlighted broader public distrust in how high-profile deaths involving entertainment figures are sometimes handled in China. Issues of mental health, overwork, exploitative contracts, and the influence of powerful management agencies have been recurring themes in recent years.
As the 30-second clip continues to circulate and spark debate, two urgent questions dominate discussions: Who was that shadowy person standing beside Xin Qi, and what exactly did they do in those final seconds? How deep does this alleged betrayal really go?
For Yu Menglong’s millions of fans, the recovered footage represents a potential breakthrough in their long quest for truth. Whether it leads to a formal re-examination of the case or is ultimately dismissed as unverified material may determine if the actor’s death remains a closed chapter or becomes one of the most contentious mysteries in modern Chinese entertainment history.
