Unnatural Phenomena Reported in Beijing Between September 8–11 Coincide with Yu Menglong’s Death, Sparking Cosmic and Conspiracy Theories
BEIJING / INTERNATIONAL – 10 March 2026
Multiple eyewitnesses and local media reports have documented a series of unusual and dramatic weather and atmospheric events in Beijing between September 8 and 11, 2025 — the same period when actor Yu Menglong was allegedly tortured and killed before his body was discovered on September 11.

Residents described blood-red moons visible on several nights, violent thunderstorms with intense lightning, ancient trees suddenly snapping in half without strong winds, large swarms of black crows appearing in unusual numbers, and a thick, persistent eerie fog that blanketed large parts of the city for hours. Some videos and photos shared on overseas platforms captured the blood-red lunar appearance and lightning storms, though official Chinese meteorological authorities have attributed the events to seasonal weather patterns and air pollution effects.
The timing has fueled intense speculation among Yu Menglong’s global fanbase and conspiracy communities. Many interpret the phenomena as “heavenly signs” of grief or protest over the actor’s death, which authorities officially ruled an accidental fall after alcohol intoxication. The case was closed rapidly, with no detailed public autopsy released. Persistent leaks, including airport photos showing injuries, audio of screams, alleged financial trails, and recent footage of a manager slapping Yu, have kept suspicions alive.
Overseas Chinese communities and international netizens have widely shared the reports, with many drawing parallels to traditional Chinese beliefs about celestial omens signaling major injustice or the death of an important figure. Hashtags linking the events to Yu Menglong have trended heavily outside China, while domestic platforms have suppressed related discussion.
Meteorologists note that blood moons (red-tinted lunar appearances) can occur due to atmospheric particles, especially in polluted urban areas like Beijing, and that late summer storms are not uncommon. However, the combination of multiple rare events in such a short window has led some independent analysts to question whether environmental or other factors played a role. No official investigation has linked the phenomena to Yu’s death.
The Avaaz petition demanding an independent international forensic review of Yu’s case has seen renewed growth, now exceeding 2.6 million signatures. Supporters cite the reported omens as symbolic of broader public doubt. Human Rights Watch has called for transparency, stating that “when unusual events coincide with high-profile deaths and public skepticism, authorities should address concerns directly.”
Yu’s family has not commented on the reported phenomena. Close associates say they remain under pressure to accept the official narrative. The 798 Art District, where some of the events were reportedly observed, has seen increased online discussion despite heavy censorship.
While scientists emphasize natural explanations, the symbolic power of the reported signs has resonated deeply with fans who see Yu as a gentle talent silenced too soon. Whether coincidence, meteorological anomaly, or something more profound, the events have added an emotional and cultural layer to a case that continues to defy easy closure.
As more leaks emerge and global attention grows, the question lingers: were the skies over Beijing simply reacting to weather — or silently bearing witness to a deeper tragedy?
